Children’s classical music

Classical composers devoted many pages of their work to children. These musical works are written taking into account the peculiarities of children’s perception, many of them are specially for small performers, according to their technical capabilities. WORLD OF CHILDREN’S MUSIC Opera and ballets, songs, instrumental plays have been created for children. R. Schumann, J. Bizet, C. Saint-Saens, A.K. Lyadov, A.S. Arensky, B. Bartok, S.M. Maykapar and other venerable composers. Many composers composed works for their own babies, and also dedicated their works to the children of their relatives and friends. For example, I.S. Bach, teaching the music of his children, wrote various plays for them (“Notebook of Anna Magdalena Bach”). The appearance of “Children’s Album” P.I. Tchaikovsky owes the composer communication with the children of his own sister and brother’s pupil. In music for children, composers of various styles see common features: bright, almost visible imagery; clarity of musical language; the clarity of the musical form. The world of childhood in music is bright. If light sadness and sadness slip in it, then it quickly gives way to joy. Often, composers created folk music for children. Folk tales, songs, dances, jokes, tales fascinate children with vivid images, evoking a lively response from them. MUSIC TALES Always fascinate children’s imagination with fabulous images. There are many musical compositions, the names of which immediately orient the little listener or performer to the magical mysterious world that is so dear to the child. Such works are distinguished by picturesqueness, saturation of musical fabric with sound imaging techniques. “Tales of Mother Goose” for the chamber orchestra M. Ravel composed for children of his close friends in 1908. The name of Mother Goose in the folklore of different European countries is the storyteller nanny. The British understand by “Mother Goose” a common expression – “old gum”. The music of this work is designed for children’s perception. It differs in convex programmability.

The main role in it is played by bright orchestral timbres. Opens the suite “Pavana Sleeping Beauty” – the smallest piece in 20 measures. An affectionate flute plays a soothing and lovely melody, which then varies with other solo wooden instruments. The second play is called Little Boy. The search for the path of the lost little boy is shown here interestingly – the torte passages of the mournful violins continuously rush up and down and then back. The noise of the wings and the twitter of birds that came to his aid are conveyed by virtuoso glissandos and trills of three solo violins, flute exclamations. The 3rd fairy tale is about a bathing Empress of Chinese statuettes, who swims to the sounds of puppet music performed by her subjects on nutshell instruments. The play is distinguished by Chinese flavor, its themes are based on the pentatonic characteristic of Chinese music. A graceful puppet march is performed by an orchestra in which celesta, bells, xylophone, plates and tombs sound. M. Ravel “The Ugly Empress of the Pagodas” from the series “Mother Goose” In the fourth play, the waltz tells about the Beauty, who fell in love with the Beast for his kind heart. In the finale, the spell is destroyed, and the Beast becomes a handsome prince. Children can easily recognize the heroes of the tale: by the sound of the clarinet’s graceful melody – Beauty, by the heavy theme of the contrabassoon – an enchanted prince in the Beast. When the miraculous transformation takes place, the prince begins to play the melody of the solo violin, and then the cello. The final of the suite paints a picture of a fabulous and beautiful garden (“The Magic Garden”).

MODERN COMPOSERS FOR CHILDREN Before the creators of children’s music in the 20th century. there was a difficult task of introducing young performers and listeners to the perception of the features of a significantly updated musical language. Musical masterpieces for children are created by S.S. Prokofiev, K. Orff, B. Bartok and other prominent composers. Classic of modern music S.M. Slonimsky wrote a wonderful series of notebooks of piano pieces for children and adults, “From 5 to 50,” which can be called the piano school for the study of modern musical language. Miniatures for piano created by the composer in the 60-80s were included in the notebook. The play “Bells” is full of modern techniques of sound production. The young performer is invited to imitate the bell ringing, playing on the open strings of the piano in combination with playing the keys. The play is distinguished by a variety of rhythmic figures, a multi-part chord. CM. Slonim “Bells” Children’s songs have always been a favorite genre among composers of all time. Today, famous composers write funny, mischievous songs for the cartoons loved by the kids, such as G. G. Gladkov, the author of music for many children’s cartoons. G.
